As Black History Month comes to an end, I can't think of a better post to share today than the extraordinary story of the "Black Loyalists in New Brunswick." Enjoy: http://www.pinstripepress.net/PPBlog/index.blog/1398596/not-black-confederates/

Interesting stuff.

Within the website you provided was the following article:  http://atlanticportal.hil.unb.ca/acva/blackloyalists/en/context/

I found it really interesting in that Cahill (author) describes the term 'Black Loyalist' as a myth.  He reasons that the slaves didn't view themselves as loyal to the Crown.  In most cases those runaway slaves with service in the British forces were simply interested in not being returned to their prior masters.  And many others who are now referred to as Black Loyalists were actually the slaves owned by white loyalists who remained enslaved.  In his view, neither case would be described by the term 'Loyalist'.
